Chilkat Valley Adventure Kids

The temperatures have dropped. That was one intense wrap-up of June. Little ones in our morning program, M-Sat, chugged their water bottles and inhaled the wetter snacks parents sent for their young adventurer. We found refuge in the shadowy places. The Secret Garden, (best hide and seek anywhere!) The route to the mill pond past the disk-golf course. Along the CIA trails, home of the Bog Beast and, of course, the fairgrounds, every kid's idea of wonderful. We've snacked, told stories and overcame the tender moments of learning how to take careful aim in the bushes (and, occasionally having your pants changed en-route.) This crew is prepping as Adventure Kids. And they're little! In addition to mornings we are again offering afternoon sessions through July, Monday-Friday from 1-4.   Happy Memorial Day weekend.    We are arranging our summer hours for Adventure Kid enrollment.  Our mixed-age sessions are M-Sat 9 Am -12:30 and 1 Pm - 4.   Ages 1.5 - 6 year olds are our main focus.   Kiddos must be able to cover some distance with a Jr. sized pack.  Stamina-snacks, water bottle, good tread on their shoes and a sense of adventure are required. This Friday, food and music, dancing and family-games will set the mood right as we get ready for spring and summer. Spring Fling promises to bring a good time for all. During the event the Wolf Den will have our door open. Whether you pop-in for a diaper change or a quick baby snooze we're open for that quiet moment of escape. Wednesday through Sunday from  5-9, Raevyn's Cafe in Dalton City is where family and friends turn out for both excellent cooking and a fine atmosphere. On Friday April 19th, from 4:30-6:30, we're hosting 'Plunk Your Junk', a yellow bag pickup of Dalton City and neighboring fairground. The kids and helpers will collect and display some of their more curious finds. We'll plan on a 'field trip' to both the landfill and recycling center soon to learn more of how the 'waste stream' from our region is currently operating. Kids are working towards earning recognition name plates. These will accompany the growing list of mega helpers who's names are already flashing from our walls. As a program fundraiser, we'll also be selling rhubarb nubs, red as fire and ready for your garden.

The Wolf Den is tickled to have Mr. Sam E. Jackson as our fff-featured artist. Sam E. is deeply inspired by his heritage landscape and traditional Tlingit culture. He's worked rather tirelessly the last few seasons to create a body of work available for our local markets. Sam's work is featured elsewhere Haines so keep your eyes open. The kids who've been participating since last June named their headquarters The Wolf Den. With this blogsite and Facebook messenger, (plus, phone or word of mouth, ALWAYS!) we'll work to keep you up to date with weekly activities. Monday ~April Fools Day! ~ Starting at 9 am we'll have Babe Land at the Wolf Den over in the fairgrounds. Littles and their little bit-bigger friends and siblings will explore Dalton City boardwalks, toddle on the 'up-up-up - ramps', explore the playground and maybe cozy on the sundeck.
